Later, she pursued her passion of caring for others by studying nursing, completing an Associate degree in Applied Science at City Tech in Brooklyn, New York. Garnes’ proficient journey led her to Bellevue Hospital’s emergency room, there she functioned as a registered nurse for five years. At the same time, she engrossed herself in volunteering, at the GAP tutoring children in Harlem. Then later as she raised her seven she simultaneously spent time volunteering with organizations like the United Way of Greater Houston, One Church, One Child Organization, and Benevolent missions international. These experiences not only fashioned her perspective but also powered her determination to bring a revolution to The Cry Of Our Children.

Her book, The Cry of Our Children, probes into profound issues such as abuse, racism, and sexism, touching the hearts of readers worldwide.
