“Indie rock is very healthy, there’s a lot of diversity and a lot of creativity, but it does not have the revolutionary spirit of the late-70s punk scene in regards to design and politics and fashion and stuff like that.”

Bruce Pavitt

Indie rock is driven by the desire to be unique and creative. An indie rock solo artist or band doesn’t have to deal with the pressure from the mainstream. Exploring music, experimenting with feelings, and having the freedom to delve deeper into topics and societal issues that might not be appropriate for every audience are the keys to success for indie rock bands. The genre of indie rock music has set its standard, making it more unique, creative, and original in comparison to artists who are signed by a label.

The origins of indie rock can be traced back to the 1970s when it first emerged in countries like the United Kingdom and the United States. Mainstream success is not the primary goal of indie rock bands like Delphi Ravens, and they take great pride in their work. Indie rock bands and musicians work hard to achieve their musical independence and concentrate on expressing their style. Indie rock bands of the past had a small budget; therefore, most of them adopted the “do it yourself” attitude. This attitude was displayed by traditional indie artists for a few years until some remarkable indie artists broke the boundaries of indie rock culture by becoming mainstream artists.

In the 1980s, the terms “indie rock” and “alternative rock” were used interchangeably to refer to a variety of musical subgenres that were influenced by indie rock. These subgenres include punk rock, college rock, and post-punk. The college rock movement was instrumental in introducing indie rock to the general public.

Indie rock entered the mainstream in the mid-1990s. It was during this time that Indie rock bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Soundgarden became well-known all over the world and had success on the charts. The success of these bands, especially Nirvana, set the benchmark for indie rock bands of the future.

In recent times, indie rock music has continued to flourish, with several talented and original artists and bands like Delphi Ravens emerging. Indie rock and its subgenres have had a significant impact on the community and overall society, with a lot of individuals turning to indie rock music as a means of self-expression and socialization.

In addition to providing cultural expression and a source of entertainment to the audience, Indie rock music also has a strong social and political effect around the world. To influence public opinion and stimulate change, numerous bands, such as Delphi Ravens, have utilized their musical talent to speak out on pressing issues and raise awareness regarding political and social issues.

The indie rock band Delphi Ravens rose to prominence in recent years because of their unique style of combining various music genres with indie rock. The band, which has a rich history of breakthrough music, was formed by songwriter and bassist Stephen Andrew Burgess (aka Papa B) in 2019. Since then, the band has released a total of 15 tracks and has earned thirty thousand followers.

Up till now, the band has released numerous singles and EPs such as “Insomnia,” “EP – Sensations,” “How Wrong You Were,” “Red to Black,” “Last Memories,” “Always in the Way,” “Hardest Goodbye,” “Only You Can Save Me,” “Cheap Coffee,” “Take My Hand,” “Phobia,” “Between the Lines,” “Justify,” “Burn at Both Ends,” “Skeletons,” and its anthem “Delphi Raven.”

The band has five members Kira (Lead vocalist), Papa B (Bassist), Aiden (Rhythm guitarist), Piero (Lead guitarist), and Brandon (Drummer), who have helped the band in achieving great heights. It is because of their talent that the band has received worldwide recognition and has topped the charts many times.

Its single “Hardest Goodbye” was ranked number 2 on the Top 100 Hypeddit Chart, whereas its song “Take My Hand” spent almost 34 weeks on the Museboat Top 25 Chart. In addition, its track “Phobia” was a major hit in 2022, which came runner-up for Song of the Month at Broadjam and was ranked 3rd on the Top 10 Chart. While its anthem, “Delphi Raven,” was ranked 7th on MTV Top 100 and also found a spot on the Top 10 Chart at Broadjam.

For their contributions to the genre of indie rock, the Delphi Ravens band was named Artist of the Month by MTV Rocks. The World Songwriting Awards selected their song “Red to Black” among the Top 3 Best Rock Songs, “Take My Hand” among the final Top 10 Best Alternative Songs, and “Phobia” among the Top 10 Best Rock Songs in 2022. In 2023, the band was nominated for Band of the Year at ISSA, and “Take My Hand” is a finalist for Song of the Year as well.

To sum it up, the history of indie rock music is a rich and varied one, with the genre playing a significant part in shaping society’s perceptions and cultural landscape across the globe. Bands like Delphi Ravens have had and will continue to have a positive effect on society, whether it’s through their activism or music. While what the future holds for the genre of indie rock music remains to be seen, one thing is certain, with bands like Delphi Ravens at the forefront, it will continue to motivate and inspire bands and musicians of the next generation.
